PleaseLetMeDesign

I couldn't let the week go by without posting some sweet graphics on the blog so here's some on a really nice and minimal website.

Masculine Machinery!

Mock all you like, but this is one hot looking piece of sewing machine storage! Sewingworkshop by Marina Bautier is a really great solution to store quite a heavy and sometimes clunky piece of kit. Her website has loads of great simple furniture on there.

It's a phone....it's an mp3....it's a doorlock!!!

It may look more like a competitor to the iphone but for those of us that have to have the very latest gadget Samsung have created the touch screen door lock currently available in Korea.

Escher Reinvented

Escher's "Relativity" in LEGO® Created by Andrew Lipson a self confessed 'professional nerd' with a little help from his friend Daniel Shiu.

Bamboo helmet

Can this be safe? I presume so or Roof wouldn't be making it. It goes to show that even the most technically demanding materials can have an Eco friendly alternative. Initially I thought it was a concept for blogs like Treehugger but here it is on MCN.

HP Virtus

Woohoo! A couple of weeks back I put a posting up on tglp moaning about the (lack of) quality ID coming out of DELL. Well, credit where it's due HP are upping their game with these new leaked shots of the Virtus destop. There aren't many details out yet but at least someone's spent a little time thinking about how the thing looks. You can see more pics at Engadget.

The Royal Art Lodge

These a are a few pictures from the Royal Art Lodge that I found on Fecal Face. I don't know much about them but I like there stuff. Go take a look yourself

cima ladder

Cima Ladder was chosen to be part of the 20 selected entries of the Composites-on-Tour exhibition organized by Design Flanders, Belgium.

The manufacture of the ladder is produced in a single piece using the monocoque technique, similar to that used in bicycle frames. The material used is a carbon fibre composite. The continuous shape and the closed frame spread the forces in all directions. This study of form added to the high strength of the carbon fiber and allowed an extra thin and light ladder of only 1 Kg. The fact that the finished ladder works as a single piece makes the ladder more stable during the lifetime avoiding rattle of assembly parts.

Nice ladder but what's with the the goatee?

SABADABADA

This may seem like quite a bizzare post, but i love some of these graphics. There is a whole site dedicated to Brazilian Vinyl from the 60's and 70's and some of the simple patterns used are great! the site is called Sabadabada

Cover up.

AME DESIGN presents a range of progressive mobile phone covers which reflect the rapid turnover of trends often found in today’s fashion culture. Pushing the boundaries of the acceptance in disposability of mobile phones AME have created the card mobile phone cover, a fashion accessory which only has a short life span and can be replaced as fast as it is disposed. The cover is a card cut out which once folded simply envelopes your phone and creates a new gender of mobile phone fashion.

I want one!!

Wii Advertising Campaign..

Some real nice advertising from Nintendo:
“We have recreated the legendary characters of vintage videogames using post-its and we put in the stores and streets of the city. On the back of each post-it there is a message which invites you relive the experiences of vintage videogames with Nintendo Wii an Virtual Console.”

Grant Hamilton

Some seriously nice minimal polaroid photography by Grant Hamilton. This really does make me want to go out and take some photos this weekend!

I Am NOT Carla

Sorry about the lame post today...but i saw these nice 'digital collages' from I Am NOT Carla. I presume its a graphic designer called Carla. She has a Flickr account too Dave!...

Every Second Counts

The new Tefal Quick Cup is an innovative water filter that produces both hot and cold water at the touch of a button. Just press the red button and you get 220ml of boiling filtered water in just 3 seconds. The Tefal quick cup will only boil the water you need, with claims that it uses 65% less energy than an ordinary kettle.

Just one sugar thanks Dave.

Sidewinder

Microsoft are well and truly back into PC peripherals with this resurrection of the Sidewinder range. This new mouse has all kinds of new fangled electronic gizmos, gamers can even alter the weight of the device courtesy of little slide out drawer. Apparently, the new features are the result of extensive consultation with gamers. This is good to hear, but who asked for it to look so crappy??

spot the difference

A museum in Germany, Aktion Plagiarius has devoted itself to naming and shaming all those companies that make a living from ripping off other peoples work. It happens all over the place but as you might expect the Chinese have a particularly soft-spot for it. It often goes unnoticed in the West but inevitably it's starting to take it's toll on businesses that do invest in R&D and Marketing - note:
> 10% of world-wide commerce are fakes and plagiarisms
> Annual world-wide economic loss: EUR 200-300 billion
> Annual world-wide loss of jobs: 200.000
The above examples are a Stihl chainsaw and a make believe BMW courtesy of Gizmodo.

Normal Studio...

Some nice home and office products from Normal Studio in France

Cappellini...

I saw these cracking stacking tables by Cappellini in Wallpaper (another thing from that magazine...) the legs are so thick, it just looks like a quality piece of furniture, it also looks like it can double up as a shelving system. The designer was Jasper Morrison

d3O

d3o is one of those new wonder materials that has cool and wierd properties. It's thixotropic which basically means it's like custard ie. it's soft but becomes firm on impact. The material is normally used for things like snowboarding hats, clothing and other such radical sports apparel. The clever folk at ame design (nature's greatest design co.) have been exploring other more creative applications such as the 'sticklebrick' shopping bag above.

Drinky...

I don't think the photographs completely catch the clever message of the product itself, but i love the look of this Office Tableware by FULGURO which hopes to make people drink more at work. Read more here...

Another faceless product

Seifart plays with the trend in which watches are increasingly being used as fashion accessories rather than as a way of telling time. Ina Seifart

Dave Gorman's Flickr Account

Hi, I found this through a link on the Flickr blog. I'm not a fan of his TV stuff particularly but I like some of his pictures and he seems like a nice bloke too. Go and take a look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/dgbalancesrocks/
