FT is one of the many cool robots developed by Kyoto University's Robo Garage (follow the link for stats and vids) This is based on the assumption it's designer Tomotaka Takashiki, that half of all robots in future will be female. Given the less intimidating nature of lady bots I think this may be a conservative estimate. If you really want to nerd-out on all things robot check out the lovingthemachine blog for more data.
