Good morning! Saw this on Wired and I liked it. Some German guys in an art collective scribble with lights and have earned themselves some fun commissions from Sky, Phillips and Speedo and others. Looks good I think, I think I'll have a go myself, can't be that hard.

Rebrand? Why?

I was going to rant about rebranding and show you a pile of terrible logo's but I'll let you go and decide for yourself
I thought I'd start with a disappointment though, Adobe should have done better than that... Brand New is a great blog dissecting logo's before and after rebrands. Some of them look good just because their old logo looks terribly out of date, some just leave you thinking why did you bother?

Music Sandwich
This isn't exactly brand new, but it is great - therefore it makes it's debut on TGLP. German manufacturers Optimal Media Production claim that their new VinylDisc is a hybrid CD/vinyl album that will play in an optical drive or on a turntable. This is all good stuff, sadly however the first band take advantage of it are FightStar... I was always more partial to FiveStar.

Most hoped for gift this Christmas?

I was reading the Wired blog (yes, at 5 minutes past 5) and found some interesting facts whilst looking their top ten hottest gifts. The slinky comes in at number one which was a surprise. Yes they're good but who's going to bother running up and down the stairs to get it, I thought kids wanted mobile phones and PS3's. One thing I didn't know though, it was created by a ship engineer Richard James after he observed a spring that fell of a shelf onto a bookcase and onto the floor, 300 million slinky's later they're still selling strong. Wish I'd thought of that...

I Can Has Toilet Roll?
I thought that the ubiquitous kitteh had peaked with with the swarovksi laptop but here we see her hitting new hights. Yes, this really is an electronic toilet roll dispensor. It retails for just $220 and allows you to pre-set how much paper to dispense each time you push the button. PS3 has gotten it wrong - 'this is living'. This post links from a blog exhaustively detailing one man's personal crusade against Hello Kitty overload - hit the link...

Jen Stark Cuts Paper
It isn't just kids that can cut up bits of coloured paper with scissors (and if it is please make sure they don't run with them). Jen Stark makes all kinds of crazy patterns, please take a look.

Get WIRED for Christmas
Once a year WIRED (the best magazine in the world, yes?) opens up a retail space somewhere for serious nerding-out. This year it's in SoHo, New York and features much tech goodness from now 'til Christmas. Robbie - please go.

Amazon Kindle vs. Books

Today is the day that Amazon launches Kindle - it's much hyped e-book. The product wirelessly downloads books, blogs magazines etc to a display that apparently looks much like real paper (in terms of sharpness/contrast. It follows (very slowly) in the footsteps of Sony's Reader (also pictured) which launched almost two years ago to universal disinterest. Enough negativity, here's some hyperbole from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos:
"We've been working on Kindle for more than three years. Our top design objective was for Kindle to disappear in your hands -- to get out of the way -- so you can enjoy your reading. We also wanted to go beyond the physical book. Kindle is wireless, so whether you're lying in bed or riding a train, you can think of a book, and have it in less than 60 seconds. No computer is needed -- you do your shopping directly from the device. We're excited to make Kindle available today."
Go Jeff!!!

micro mp3 hottie
A quick post featuring a diddy audio jack sized mp3 concept from Tae-wan Kim. The Tok Tak hangs from your headphones, and can also be used with a base station which will charge you Tok Tak and also has built in speakers. The Dock is controlled by the Tok Tak like a joystick to change tunes

Exploding PiggyBank
Toy maker Tomy are launching the most badass piggybank ever on junior savers next week. Not only does this thing look super mean, it actually explodes showering coins across your desktop if you don't put anything in there for a few days. Apparently it vibrates to warn you things are about to get messy...

Metaphys Japan...
My second posting on Japanese design this week, the Metaphys Cyclone Cleaner is an absolute stunner. Designed by Metaphys Japan, its so simple and so nice and on their website there is a great animation showing it in use. I love the bold orange they've decided to use, but Big Red is right...where is the brown and orange colour-way hey!?
