PaperBot
Chris loves robots. Even low-tech specimens such as this guy. The Dragonaut is a student project from the Parsons Making Wireless Toys class, created by Kan Yang Li -- it's a cardboard robot that uses an Arduino kit to give him life: "after you use a key to start him up, his arms raise and lower to proclaim 'awesome!'" Click the link to find out how to make your own...

Inverted Clocks...

I like the idea of these Inverted Clocks by Jason Linde. The hands don't move but instead the clock face turns lining up the appropriate numbers. Dead simple, not the greatest execution i don't think, i'm not sure of his choice of typeface for the numbers...call me a type geek, but i like the colours chosen and the hand forms.

Chocolate Hard Drive

This an interesting take on a portable hard drive by Sang Hoon Lee. Basically it's a bunch of flash drives attached a touchscreen hub. Files are shunted around via the touchscreen.

Vista takes damage from XP
The word from Akihabara (Japan's world HeadQuarters of New Tech) is that disgruntled nerds are going through great difficulty to have their new PC's downgraded to XP from Vista. Proof of this recent trend, is the otherwise unremarkable new Toshiba T31 notebook. This ships with both Vista and XP DVD's. Sorry Redmond, maybe you should have picked a more flashy name... something like Leopard??

Get out of my PAN Man!!
This is the new Eco Sensor phone from Nokia. It's only a concept so it's won't see the light of day but maybe some it's features will. Like many wearable technology concepts before it, it uses the idea of a Personal Area Network to increase functionality:
"The Nokia Eco Sensor concept includes a wearable sensor unit that will house a number of optional sensors to monitor environment, health and local weather conditions, a dedicated mobile phone and a set of dedicated mobile software applications and services. The carrying strap made from solar cells will power the sensor unit and all the devices will "talk" to each other via low power near field radio technologies."

Apple Remote (Not by Apple)

Justin Roebuck has designed these remote control concepts. Intended for a family they sit together and carry indivual users own pre-sets. Sadly, they also employ such ubiquitous concepts such as induction charging and motion sensing, but aren't they pretty?

DoCoMo Think of the Children

Here at ame we are always interested in products that enable personal safety - witness our work for Connexion2 It is therefore good to see Japan's gadget-loving top mobile phone co. announce FOMA
In an emergency, the child can quickly switch on the phone's 100-decibel alarm, which produces two types of noise alternately. When the alarm is activated, the phone also emits a bright light (high-intensity LED) that is easily visible to people in the surrounding area. The phone can be set to automatically notify loved ones when the alarm is activated, and provide the handset's current location as well. In addition, the child can discreetly message their location to a registered imadoco search user by simply pushing a button on the side of the phone. If the phone's power is switched off, a presetting can enable the handset to automatically turn back on (in as little as five minutes) and message the incident and the phone's location to a registered DoCoMo phone. An amulet-style remote controller worn by the child can be used to make a misplaced phone beep if within a range of about 10 meters (may vary with usage environment). If the user moves even farther from the handset, the phone can automatically lock (requires presetting). If the handset remains out of the amulet's range for more than five minutes, a message can be sent automatically to a registered DoCoMo phone.

PLEO Please.
It's about two years since PLEO started getting press coverage. Finally it's here and it makes Aibo look like total dump (no sh*t). The best news is that they are only £250, probably less than a real dog - certainly less than a real dinasaur. Engadget have got one of these guys on trial if you want to know more.

Ping My Ding-a-Ling
This is one to please both TEAM TECHNICAL and BD. It's a USB powered mechanical contraption that rings every time your website or blog gets a hit. You'll have to look here to find out how to build one and if your website is like TGLP it's gonna produce one long, continuous tone...

Gamper Martino...

A really interesting (and some a little bizarre) collection of furniture designs by Gamper Martinio. alot of of the pieces are created entirely from reusing old pieces of furniture, which i know some people will think look shabby, but i think it just adds charm and alot of contrast. Not for everyone, but i really loved looking around the site.
